I was hired by the AD at Pocket Gems to explore new visual directions for War Dragons' in-game HUD. This was a project that involved regular reviews, stakeholder feedback sessions, and ongoing iterative redesigns. Most of this work is simple Photoshop and Illustrator. Implementation/testing (which was mostly asset swapping) was handled through a simple Flash-based tool.
These started as an exploration of gold inlaid on black stone, and through feedback and iteration found it's way closer to the Dr. Strange school of magic. This was the most popular design internally.
A call for exploration into a more casual and approachable style resulted in these crisp, wood-based backdrops to the existing HUD elements.
A request for a style with limited color came in, and I approached it as a silver on stone solution.
